Saturated Attends The Airbnb Africa Travel Summit 2023

On the 24th of October 2023, over 200 policymakers, tourism experts, innovators and changemakers from across the continent gathered for the Airbnb Africa Travel Summit 2023 in Victoria Yards in the city of Johannesburg, South Africa. Our two co-founders, Mamello Mofokeng and Nkululeko Nkosi, were invited to this prestigious invite-only event to contribute to the development of the travel and tourism sector in Africa. Airbnb was hosting the Airbnb Africa Travel Summit for the second time with the first one having been hosted in Cape Town in 2018.

For the 2023 edition of the summit, the event was moderated by Afua Osei, co-founder of She Leads Africa. The event had a lineup of more than 20 speakers and panelists that facilitated an interactive day of discussion and networking around the role of tourism and technology in driving continued inclusive and sustainable economic empowerment and growth across the continent.

Patricia de Lille, Minister of Tourism, graced the summit by providing a welcome note, alongside other notable thought leaders, including Bankole Oluwafemi, founder of TechCabal; Juliette Langlais, Airbnb’s Director of Public Policy and Campaigns for Europe, Middle East and Africa; and Anita Mendiratta, Global Strategic Advisor on Tourism & Development. These esteemed guests were further joined by y representatives from UNESCO and the WTTC, as well as changemakers in inclusivity, sustainability and tech regulation. Zozibini Tunzi, actress, model and advocate of empowerment and inclusivity, will present the final keynote; and the evening will end with a performance by world-renowned recording artist, Bongeziwe Mabandla.

The Saturated team network with industry professionals, like-minded entrepreneurs and innovators who are building innovations for the travel and tourism space.
